Synopsis
The documentary traces the legacy of the Turks in the Balkans through the scholarly heritage of Prof. Dr. Halil İnalcık, exploring the historical journey from the Turks’ earliest settlements in the region through the Ottoman period to the present day. Bringing together exclusive interviews with Halil İnalcık recorded over a period of 23 years, archival documents, historical sites, and insights from Bulgarian historians Milena Petkova and Orlin Sabev, the documentary sheds light on the long historical journey that has shaped the presence of Turkish communities who continue to live in the Balkans today, particularly in Bulgaria. Bridges, mosques, dervish lodges, fortresses, and other elements of cultural heritage bring this rich historical legacy into focus.
