Synopsis

“The Eternal Flame” is a documentary film spoken entirely in Crimean Tatar. The documentary tells the story of Naci Konar, a member of the Crimean Tatar diaspora who emigrated from Crimea to Turkey 120 years ago, and his longing for the Crimea he has never seen. The story is enriched by Naci's everyday life. Scenes such as repairing an engine, preparing göbete (a Crimean Tatar dish), wedding preparations and conversations with relatives vividly reflect the everyday life of the Tatars. The nostalgia for the past is also expressed through Naci's nostalgia for Crimea. His desire to revisit the village of Baksan in Crimea, his attachment to the land of his ancestors and his desire to pass this longing on to future generations is one of the main themes of the story. The documentary also highlights the preservation of the Tatar language, which is on the verge of disappearing, the survival of traditions and the importance of family ties. Naci's longing for the natural beauties of Crimea and his dream of returning to these lands is one of the emotional climaxes of the narrative. The sincere dialogue between the characters and the simple narrative provide the audience with a story of migration as well as a warm family portrait.
